It’s like Swansea – near Cardiff!
As a Salfordian, born and bred, I wasn’t aware of being from a different city. I lived in the Chapel St. area, five minutes stroll to Manchester city centre, or town as we called it, so we were probably more ‘local’ than most Mancunians.
As for the long list of innovation that seems to flow out of the city and it’s environs, from Bolton, Wigan, Stockport and elsewhere, it’s wise to be aware of the broader picture. Necessity and a large influx of ‘immigrants’ played a large part in the industrial and cultural creativity, still does I guess. And it comes at some cost, physical and mentally! It hasn’t all been propitious either. Still, let’s not be negative…
This deserves a tea-towel print run John. I once saw one about all the things the Scots have invented. And another one with Geordie sayings. Not to down-play it of course. They are all terrific surprises to read about! Manchester, England England, across the Atlantic Sea (which may/may not apply)…
