Anarty

Cecelia Paredes is my sharp pin today for her originality. The Peruvian artist starts her work by picking a pattern of wallpaper then paints herself into the pattern and then photographs it. I feel there’s a certain Frida Kahlo element to this as she uses herself as a subject but there are themes of identity too. Paredes talks of feeling like she has to meld to into her environment in real life.
