Draw Out 2 – A Cunning Plan!

There are holes in the sky

Where the rain gets in

But they’re ever so small

That’s why the rain is thin.

Spike Milligan

“In England, Sunday should be renamed ‘Rain-like-every-other-day’.”

Ivo Karlovic, Croatian tennis player

“I’m getting p***ed off with it p***ing down all the time!”

notestothemilkman, British blogger

We managed Draw Out 1 in May in pleasant sunshine when we went for a bimble round Rivington. Two attempts in June for another walk with our sketchbooks were rained off. Next Sunday we are meant to be going for a walk round Castlefield, and up the River Irwell to Odsall Hall.

I have a cunning plan regarding the weather! I’m going to get a very long ladder that reaches up to the sky and then I’m going to get some Polyfilla and fill up all of Mr Milligan’s holes! Simples!

While the three places I have ear marked for stopping and sketching are undercover (one under a large bridge and two inside) it would be nice to walk alongside the river without thinking we’ve stayed into the river itself.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

I like your quote John. It sums up how we all feel. Hope it cheers up for your Draw Out

    • We can but hope! One of the problems is that if I’m going to cancel due to poor weather I have to do so several days before based on the current forecast to make sure nobody turns up to find there’s no one else there.
Here’s another appropriate quote. I don’t know the origin of this one.
“In Britain even the Queen reigns.”

Love those quotes, especially the last one (from that august fellow). The thing I admire about Britons is that you make a summer out of it anyway (sell ice creams, wear t-shirts despite the cold). Just watch out for the Ordsell Hall lady in white. She would be difficult to draw, gesture or otherwise. No doubt she will be ‘decent’.

Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm… that’s cunning.
